House Concert: Mark Shiiba
Join us for an intimate evening of indie folk music with San Diego–based singer-songwriter Mark Shiiba. Transitions, loss, forgiveness, mystery, rootedness, hope—these are some of the themes his songs explore.
About the artist
Mark Shiiba is a folk singer-songwriter based in San Diego. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and former nuclear surface warfare officer, he left the Navy after six years of service to pursue a life devoted to storytelling, community, and song. The title track of his debut album, “Bones,” won first place in the Americana category of the 2024 American Songwriter Song Contest. His music has been streamed more than one million times, and he was featured on season 26 of NBC’s The Voice as a member of Team Michael Bublé. Inspired by songwriters such as Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, Mark writes thoughtful songs that wrestle with questions of mortality and meaning. He also creates Song Portraits, original songs and short films crafted from the stories of everyday people. This work is supported in large part by his patron community, Shiiba Village.
